Centaur's "Greening of America" Program

Centaur is corporately and individually committed to doing our part to: Contribute to the safety and well being of the occupants and visitors of our customers' buildings Contribute to conserving our natural resources, and protect the earth's environment.

Green Cleaning (As defined by Wikipedia)
The utilization and implementation of certified and approved chemicals, supplies, equipment, and procedures, which have been specifically designed to reduce negative effects upon the earth's environment and any persons directly exposed to the defined geographical area.

Green Technology (As Defined in Part by Wikipedia)
The application of the environmental sciences to conserve the natural environment and resources, and curbing the negative impacts of human involvement. Solutions need to be socially equitable, economically viable, and environmentally sound. Some technologies assist directly with energy conservation, while other technologies are emerging that help the environment by reducing the amount of waste produced by human activities. Energy sources such as solar power create fewer problems for the environment than traditional sources of energy like coal and petroleum. Scientists continue to search for clean energy alternatives to our current power production methods. Some technologies such as anaerobic digestion produce renewable energy from waste materials. The global reduction of greenhouse gases is dependent on the adoption of energy conservation technologies at industrial level as well as this clean energy generation.

Varying Levels of Green Technology Applications:

Leadership In Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Building Certification
Constructing a new structure or retrofitting an Existing Building (LEED EB) will result in dramatic energy savings, reduced greenhouse gas emissions, improved indoor air quality, and lower operating expenses.

According to the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), green buildings save:
30 - 50% of energy
35% of carbon emissions
40% of water
70% of solid waste

U.S. Green Building Council(USGBC) Committed to maximizing the economic and environmental performance of buildings. Consisting of over 5,000 organizations, the USGBC drives the expansion of green building practices worldwide.

Green Seal Products In order for products to receive Green Seal Certification, they must be scientifically tested and re-tested for compliance with environmentally friendly composition, application, and providing effective results for their intended use.

Simple Procedures to Follow:
Thorough initial personnel training
Routinely replace mop pads
Dispose of used mop pads correctly
Apply proper dilution ratios of alpha HP
Proper/routine washing of micro fiber tools
Ongoing employee training discontinue use
of aerosols, acids, and butyls

Centaur's Green Products:
Alpha HP (one product with varying dilution ratios)?-?One disinfectant chemical for various cleaning tasks (windows, desk tops, toilets, mirrors, water fountains, floors, etc.)
"Reliable Green Choice" Foam Handwash - Reduced human and aquatic toxicity (touch free dispensers are available).
Bio-Tough Trash Bags - 100% biodegradable and can be composted.
Walk Off Matts - Placement and maintenance of an effective matting system at entrances reduces dirt brought in from outside.
Restroom Paper Goods - Utilize paper products made from recycled products and coreless toilet tissue.
Micro Fiber Mops - Can be used either wet or dry and dispenses ALPHA HP disinfectant. Lasts five times longer than the standard mop head. Reduces water consumption, cross contamination, and the volume of mop water/chemicals disposed of into city sanitary sewer lines.
Micro Fiber Dusters - Keeps dust from becoming airborne.
Micro Fiber Towels - Picks up and traps 99% of all dust, dirt and contaminants.
Hepa Vacuum Filters - Traps 99.5% of all dust and contaminants removed from the carpet. Must empty bags nightly.
Carpet/Floor Care - Utilize high speed floor machines with maximum filtration and vacuum. Use battery powered machines, which utilize gel batteries. Minimize water in carpet cleaning.
Recycle Waste - Implement a recycling process for paper, glass, plastics, cardboard, aluminum, batteries, and light bulbs.
Energy Saving Light Bulbs - Replace incandescent bulbs plus two and four foot fluorescent bulbs.
